Research and Planning: New Film Poster Draft

Poster A
Poster B
Poster C

  • Picture of us me, Becky and Laura (position) - poster C
  • Picture of Brendon (position) - poster A
  • All of the bottom text including film title (position) - poster A
  • "REVENGE IS SWEET" (position) - poster C
  • Colour of us 3 girls (edit/filter) - poster B

I probably wouldn't do the film poster in the way I had explained it on the post 'Research and Planning: Production Meeting 6' with the total poster change
but keep it the way it is and just make small changes.

Research and Planning: Update of Film Magazine and Poster

Magazine Cover: I had changed the font of the bottom, middle and top text because the previous font triggered off the high school film theme. Also as there were too many colours on the cover so I removed the blue colour. In addition as our group decided to change the name of the film I had to change the main subheading from "Avenge" to "Vengeance".

Poster: I changed the film title to a different font as the last font didn't really relate to the horror theme so this time I chose a gothic font. Also I added a swirl over the whole poster to link to the plot of the film involving a psycho character and which a swirl gives off the psychotic horror theme. The specific colour is red of the swirl because red is a dominant horror colour.

Research and Planning: Production Meeting 6

Yesterday our group had a meeting to discuss how we could make our teaser trailer better and shorter so it doesn't seem like its own little film.

Also Becky and Laura were researching on film posters to help them choose how they want their own to look like and I felt like changing mine to make it eye-catching with more of the red colour like it is on the 'Scream 4' poster. I had already done my magazine layout with the colours I wanted but Becky and Laura researched film magazine covers to develop their magazine covers. However if I can just update little bits from what I've done so far of the poster and make it look better then I might not change the whole piece totally by making it look like a combination of 3 different 'Scream 4' film posters.

In addition we once again thought about changing the film name as "Avenge" seemed to give off a meaning of someone taking revenge for someone else and not for their own self, we now want to call it "Vengeance".

Another problem was that we had to take the pictures this Monday lunch instead of last Friday as Becky was absent and then as Laura was absent we moved it to Tuesday lunch but because of the long meeting we had yesterday we thought of taking them Friday after college when we would start shooting for our teaser trailer again. Plus we would be shooting some on Thursday lunch for the college location.

Research and Planning: Production Meeting 5

We had planned to meet on Wednesday lunch and take some pictures for our posters and magazine covers but unfortunately Becky had no time for important reasons so we moved our photo shoot day to Friday lunch and even after college if we lose out on time.

Research and Planning: Image Quality

In this lesson we took pictures of landscape, objects and people on the SLR and the digital camera to see what differences we can spot of the same images we had on each different camera. The SLR seemed to be of better quality even though the pictures could come out quite dark.

Research and Planning: Audience Feedback for Film Magazine Cover and Poster

MAGAZINE COVER

I've got a balance of good and bad comments. I have used all the conventions for a magazine cover so overall the comments were great for my magazine.
Becky stated I don't need the blood writing wall as my background image as film magazines are about other latest films but my magazine is a special edition for our movie so I put it up.
Abbie claimed the background photograph shouldn't be there too but only because it doesn't stand out, I think if I don't use much of the gradient tool on it then it'll stand out more.
Haiesha stated that Laura should be bigger so it fills in the space but the thing is my magazine wasn't finished so I hadn't inserted photos of me and Becky to the sides of Laura yet. She also thinks the background picture is could possibly not be used at all if not covered a bit more with Laura's picture as she thinks that picture gives a clear enough idea of what the genre is.
Megan thinks my photographs fit in well with the genre but thought my film title font looked comedy horror so I'm going to change that to a gothic font.
Sufia like Haiesha claimed the sides of my magazine are slightly empty but I will fill them in with photos of me and Becky.

POSTER

My film poster got more negative comments than positive ones.
Abbie pointed out my picture showed the audience the horror genre of the film. She said there is too much black and white so I'm going to add a red swirl over the whole of the poster to connotate the psychotic plot.
Becky agreed with Abbie to my chosen picture being right for the genre of which my poster is aimed at. She stated the blood, bruises and cuts should be in colour of Laura's face. I want it that way, I don't know how to do that yet. She thinks the fonts used are good and make it look like a realistic film poster.
Sufia commented that overall my film poster looks great. She also thinks my chosen font reflects on the genre of horror and so does the photograph of Laura. She suggested I should make the name LAURA BOYLE bigger but I reckon for just an actress name it's big enough.

Research nad Planning: Film Magazine (comment please)

This is not finished yet, I haven't put the picture of me and Becky standing at each side of Laura at a bit of a higher level. I needed me and her looking normal without the blood, cuts and bruises because Laura is the main character who needs to stand out. Also I need to take Laura's photo again but on the SLR and not on the digital camera. Unfortunately the photographs we did take of us had got lost and we will be taking them again soon.

Research and Planning: Teaser Trailer Audience Feedback

Our teaser trailer "Avenge" has got a balanced out positive and negative feedback from the audience. We have got three 8, one 7, one 6 and one 9 rating for our teaser trailer. In addition to these audience feedback's I will put in my own thoughts and suggestions for changes.

Pretty much everyone had almost a clear understanding of the storyline. We have got very good sound, quality, cinematography and mise-en-scene comments. Locations were seen as clear quality and mise-en-scene of facial appearance turned out to be great. Couple of people have said the sounds including the music fit in well and build up the atmosphere of the horror theme and brings panic to the audiences reaction.

The least appealing comment we have got was the editing being quite rough on the recorded parts where Becky's voice was cut off and I definitely think that should be amended. The bit of the trees might look too hand held but to be honest I'm not sure if there was a reason for it, I will discuss it with my group whether that shot should really be part of it or not. Laura did put in quick shots of of some of the filming to add suspense to the audiences reaction but we still have some one pointing out we do need quick shots so maybe we could make it quicker. I did film in high angle of Becky and Laura running away from the camera to show male power but it had been recorded over so unfortunately we couldn't have no high angle shots in our teaser trailer. The scream in the toilet to be cut out has been pointed out by someone without a reason so we might not take it out but make changes instead. The last change we can make as one person suggested is the title as it gives a connotation that someone apart from Brendon is doing the killing. Another small suggested change someone would like to hear is the diegetic sounds of the cars to be non-diegetic.

Overall the audience seem to have found our teaser trailer to be really good and I'm surprised to know that no one has mentioned the length of it. It's about 2 minutes but am sure with the help of Laura we can manage to make it just about a minute long.

Research and Planning: Production Meeting 4

As the film title "The Silhouette" didn't match the storyline as much as we thought it would we decided to change it. We thought of silhouettes as positive looking pictures when we had researched on google images so we realized then it wasn't suitable for our film as we wanted it to be the outline of the villain. We changed it to "Avenge" so it relates to the storyline.
