Evaluation: Question 4- How do you use media technologies in the construction and reasearch, planning and evaluation stages?

These 2 videos show how I used different media technologies for my research and planning. I made a seperate video to talk about what I was showing which is at the bottom below my prezi.

This is the video of my voice to explain what I was showing, even though it's just my voice I had to put it on iMovie because blogger doesn't upload podcasts.

EVALUATION

Prezi
Last year I didn't use prezi but I used it for my evlautaion as well as for my publication plan in research and planning. For this fourth part of the evaluation I made a mind map to show which media technologies I used and what I used them for.

YouTube
To my evaluation prezi I added 2 videos off YouTube, these were a test clip which I did in September with a girl in my class and a mobile footage which I did with my group in March to be a part of our teaser trailer. I hadn't used this at all last year.

GarageBand
This is where I made podcasts for the second, third and fourth part of my evaluation. I could've recorded my voice on iMovie but this was easier to record on. This is another media technology I couldn't use last year.

iMovie
Last year I did use this for my evaluation part of the coursework but I din't know how to use it at all but this year I used it a few times for my evaluation as well as for our teaser trailer.

iTunes
After I had created podcasts on GarageBand I had to export them to this so I can insert them on iMovie for my evaluation as podcasts can't be added to iMovie. Sounds weren't needed last year so this was the first time I used this.

iShowU
I had used this to show how I used a range of different technologies for part 4 of the evaluation. Last year I had set up a video camera to record how I used a couple of technologies. iShowU has made creating videos easier.

OVERALL

iMac
This is the main media technology I had used for creating my 3 production pieces. Also when it came to using the blogger it was easier to upload videos onto and insert pictures of anything off the iMac screen.

Blogger
This is the website I had used to do all my research and planning, evaluation and upload my productions pieces in picture/video forms.

Evaluation: Question 3- What have you learned from your audience feedback?

This is what my poster and magazine looked like before I got the feedback.

This is what my poster and magazine looked like after I got the feedback.

I couldn't find our first rough cut on the teaser trailer but this is what our second draft of the teaser trailer looked like after we got the feedback.

This is what our teaser trailer looked like after we got the second feedback.

Evaluation: Question 2- How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

Evaluation: Question 1- In what way does your media products use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Poster

Use:
Different sizes and layout of pictures to separate enemy and victims.

Red and black use of colours to reflect on the horror genre.

I have put the film title, tag line, web address and credits at the bottom of the poster like the way it is in the Scream 4 poster.

Develop:
Different foreground colours for pictures show who is the enemy and who are the victims. On the Scream 4 poster the scream character is in it's real colours.

I've put the 2 main star names at the top of the poster.

Inserted our 2 film company logos on my poster below the credits.

Challenge:
Enemy watches over the girls I decided to have his eyes stand out but instead of the usual red colour to relate the horror genre I chose to have his natural eye colour blue.

Magazine Cover

Use:
All media conventions are used.

Text is placed at the bottom and top of the cover. Top text lets the audience know it's a horrors collectors issue and bottom text states latest movies.

Pictures are big and fit well into the page when 3 people are used.

Develop:
Usually have background scene or just block colours but I inserted a picture onto it that gives away a part of the storyline. I used a medium shot picture of blood writing which was in one of our filming location. the tunnel.

Red and black colour fonts for the link to the horror genre.

Slightly different layout of text, plus text is put onto the cover to make it stand out.

Challenge:
A block colour of black behind the text at the top of the cover to make the masthead seem like it's blending in to the background.

Teaser Trailer

Use:
It has the MPAA rating at the beginning of the teaser trailer which I got this off Google images.

It has a couple of film company logos, I created Crooked Pictures and Laura made Granite Films.

Introduce the main characters at the beginning. On our teaser trailer we have Sarah (Laura) and Josh (Brendon).

Text is inserted in the teaser trailer to give the audience an idea of what the movie is about. In 'One Missed Call' we have "Everyday 2 billion cellphones ring..." and on ours we have "WHAT DOES IT TAKE".

Use of fake blood, 'One Missed Call' doesn't use it in their trailer but it's common in horror trailers.

Close-up shots to focus on scared face expressions as it's a horror teaser trailer.

Big close-up shot of a female character screaming at the end like the way it's done in 'One Missed Call'.

Develop:
Uses different shots/angles for same scenes e.g. the bit where Sarah (Laura) dumps Josh (Brendon).

Compared to 'One Missed Call' we have used a mobile footage video. Although it's not a challenge as other movie makers have used this, it's developed to our teaser trailer.

In 'One Missed Call' low angle shots are used in the scary scenes. In our teaser trailer a high angle shot is used instead. This was done to show who are the victims, they are watched at a high angle to emphasize their weakness and for the audience create suspense.

Challenge:
Throughout the teaser trailer the face of the enemy is hidden without using a mask or something like face paint to cover it. Only a tiny part of the teaser trailer shows the side of his face.

The story line of our movie/teaser trailer as you don't know who to feel more sorry for. Should it be for Josh (Brendon) or the 3 girls especially Sarah (Laura) as the boy seeks revenge but the girls make a fool of him.

Final Film Poster

Changes made:
  • added the film company logos that I and Laura created, one each
  • added the film web address at the bottom but chose a different font so it doesn't seem like it's part of the credits
  • changed the font of "COMING 2012" so it's the same as the rest of the text font
  • changed "COMING 2012" to a bigger size and moved it to the left a bit so it's in line with the credits

Final Film Magazine Cover

Changes made:
  • fonts of the small writing at the top, bottom and middle
  • lower the film title and the text underneath it to a lower level
  • move the barcode to the right and put the date and price on it
  • rotate the barcode
  • moved the circle shape with the text to the top over lapping the masthead
  • put all the forward slash at the bottom in 1 colour
  • shadowed the photograph on the outside so Laura is focused on more.
